When my sister and Coils to Locs co-founder, Dianne Austin, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015, she was lucky enough to have great insurance (and a supportive job environment). As a result, Dianne’s insurance covered all of her cancer treatment. Unfortunately, for a lot of women and families, this synergy is not the norm, and families find themselves trying to navigate the financial barriers to cancer treatment. While this may be true, there is hope and help. Enter Family Reach.

Just like Coils to Locs believes every woman, regardless of hair texture, should have access to a wig that resembles the hair that she lost, Family Reach believes that no family should have to choose between their health and their home because of a cancer diagnosis.
Family Reach is Removing Barriers
Family Reach is a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to removing the financial barriers standing between a cancer patient and their treatment. Loss of income, out-of-pocket expenses, and socioeconomic factors create disparities in the financial burdens families face. Family Reach delivers financial education, financial planning, resource navigation, and emergency relief funds to patients and caregivers facing a cancer diagnosis so no family has to choose between their health and their home. Family Reach believes that financial treatment should start as soon as a cancer treatment begins.
Coming Together for Cancer Care
Coils to Locs has partnered with Family Reach to bring you “Removing the Financial Barriers to Cancer Treatment.” This online event takes place on Saturday October, 16, from 12 noon-1pm EST. The Coils to Locs Health, Beauty and Wellness events are always free and are open to patients and caregivers alike. In fact, all are welcome because so many people are involved during the cancer treatment journey.
Specifically, in this event, you’ll learn how to plan and find resources for expenses during cancer treatment insurance doesn’t cover. The workshop will be led by Resource Navigator, Anya Spratley and Financial Planning Program Manager, Amanda Maddalone of Family Reach. In other words you’re in good hands!
Please Join us and learn how Family Reach can help you. Myself and Dianne look forward to seeing you there and seeing you thrive!

Hi Gloria, so sorry to hear about your cancer diagnosis. There are some non-profit organizations out there like http://www.lookgoodfeelbetter.org that have resources for cancer patients. I believe that includes free or low cost wigs. Coils to Locs wigs can be purchased at various hospitals. You can see the list by clicking “Where to Buy” on our website. In addition some select CTLS wigs can be found online on the Sokoni platform for a limited time until we launch our online store this Fall.http://coilstolocs.com/sokonishop
